Social Media Workshop

Last Friday I got the opportunity to attend my first Social Media Workshop. Now although I did need to attend as it is part of my social media grade, I don't want to look at it that way. It is a way to be able to learn about new skills that will help me in my future career. The day was set up with everyone attending first meeting in the ballroom to hear from speaker Jason Therrien who is the founder of Thunder::Tech. To start off the day he gave an amazing presentation on how far long social media has come and what direction it is currently heading in. After his presentation the rest of the presentations where is two different rooms and you got to choose which room you wanted to go during that time. Overall, it was an amazing day and lots to learn.
Now as I said before our first speaker of the day was Jason Therrien and I am going to go deeper into what he presented. Right now, we all know that there is TikTok, Instagram, X which used to be Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. As soon as one social media platform dies out there will always be another one ready to take its place. Today the average person checks their phone 144 times which should not take anyone by surprise as we all count on them as our main form of communication. As Jason mentioned in his presentation right now most social media users are beginning to use these platforms as their main search engine. 24% of consumers use social media to search for answers while 56% of Gen-Z uses social media as their main search engine. One of the main struggles right now is keeping consumers attention. A big thing on social media platforms that seems to be getting the attention of users are short videos under 90 seconds. Another thing users are looking for is something that they can personally relate too and something that is funny. With more and more brands on social media platforms consumers want to feel like they can relate to the ads or content being published by them. As social media constantly changes and shifts, we as users, and content creators and businesses must be able to adapt and grow with it.
Social media is not going anywhere which means as individuals wanting to become content creators, and businesses using it to promote their products we must be able to grow with it. At this year's social media workshop there were various amounts of great speakers who shared there years of experience and highlighted on the most vital parts. I tuned in to sharing all the wonderful information Jason Therrien presented but there is so much more when it comes to social media.

Journey of Jaelynn

Today was the first day back at Ohio Northern University for spring semester. For me it will probably take me a few class days to get back in the swing of things as I took fall semester off and only had two online classes. However, I am very excited as I begin my time as a Marketing major. After I graduate from Ohio Northern I am hoping to put my Marketing degree in use in the Art field. Specifically in Art Galleries. Now personally I have no talent when it comes to drawing, painting, and generally all hands-on art that individuals can create. With that being said, even though I don't have that level of artistic ability I have always been drawn to it. To be able to look at certain pieces of art and try to find the true meaning behind each and every piece of artwork. When it comes to art, I love being able to hear how everyone's perspective on certain artworks. I find it beautiful how we all take in things differently and come up with differe...

Social Media's connection with Mental Health

Is there a connection between social media and mental health? The answer to that question is yes and as technology grows and social media platforms progress the more individuals are aware of the connection.      On a personal level I have first-hand come to realize how social media can affect one's mental health. I remember when I first got on social media, I was constantly comparing myself to other females on the platform and wished that I could look like how they did. Then I was fixated on how many likes I got on each of my posts. Social media was destroying my mental health and self-esteem day in and day out. I would constantly look at my phone to see if I had any notifications from someone trying to follow me or liking one of my posts. However, I made changes and over the years since then I have made sure to take time away from social media by completely deleting my accounts and refocusing in on me when I started to feel the negative impact again. Social media ...

The Social Dilemma

Let me introduce to you The Social Dilemma , a documentary that goes into the depths of the problems the world is facing with technology and social media. A compelling insight on the risks of addiction, mental health disorders when using social media.      Throughout the documentary it explores and dives into explaining how social media companies use algorithms in order to track their user's behavior and increase engagement. Former Facebook engineer Justin Rosenstein goes into depth how users are being sold to advertisers, and in a way, users are selling their attention away to them. Then Tristan Harris a former Google design ethicist goes in to explaining the addiction to social media platforms and the similarity it has between Vegas slot machines which are primarily designed to keep and maintain one's attention.      Another main topic that is focused on throughout the documentary is how misinformation has spread globally through thes...
