Exam Week

This week in Principles of Social - Media we had a review day for our first Exam in the class. Review days are always the best especially when it is the first exam because it allows you to get a feel for how questions will be set up on the exam and what kind of answers being expected.

The exam will be over chapters one through six and chapter twelve. These chapters contain information on various topics from, blogs, to marketing with Instagram. Throughout the chapters various amounts of data sets are provided to show us when and who are using certain social media apps. From the gender that uses it the most, to when are the best and worst times to post. Another topic provided in the chapters in how to set business accounts on each of the social media platforms and what are the key features to include into your profile. We also learned what certain features are on the social media platforms and how to best use them to our advantage. Following with that we also had a chapter on personal branding and how to market ourselves and to start networking. It gives key information on the steps needed to be taken to professionally be able to market ourselves and what information we should have on platforms such as LinkedIn.

For this exam I believe I have prepared enough and have a full understanding of all the chapters and will be able to succeed as long as I take my time and fully read what is being asked. When it comes to taking an exam the best thing you can allow yourself to do is take your time and fully read through the question until you understand what is being ask and think about all the thing's, you have learned throughout the course thus far. Another thing that will help is studying and truly going through everything again. When I study, I like to look over the chapters again and over past assignments ad any key notes I took up to this point. I also review over notes taken during the review day before the exam as it refreshes my memory on certain topics.

In conclusion, this week has been a very repetitive week as most of the time has been studying for exams and then taking exams and starting the process all over again.  As most students are finishing wrapping up there, last few exams, I am sure I speak for all of us when we say we cannot wait for midterm week to come to a closing.

Journey of Jaelynn

Today was the first day back at Ohio Northern University for spring semester. For me it will probably take me a few class days to get back in the swing of things as I took fall semester off and only had two online classes. However, I am very excited as I begin my time as a Marketing major. After I graduate from Ohio Northern I am hoping to put my Marketing degree in use in the Art field. Specifically in Art Galleries. Now personally I have no talent when it comes to drawing, painting, and generally all hands-on art that individuals can create. With that being said, even though I don't have that level of artistic ability I have always been drawn to it. To be able to look at certain pieces of art and try to find the true meaning behind each and every piece of artwork. When it comes to art, I love being able to hear how everyone's perspective on certain artworks. I find it beautiful how we all take in things differently and come up with differe...

Social Media's connection with Mental Health

Is there a connection between social media and mental health? The answer to that question is yes and as technology grows and social media platforms progress the more individuals are aware of the connection.      On a personal level I have first-hand come to realize how social media can affect one's mental health. I remember when I first got on social media, I was constantly comparing myself to other females on the platform and wished that I could look like how they did. Then I was fixated on how many likes I got on each of my posts. Social media was destroying my mental health and self-esteem day in and day out. I would constantly look at my phone to see if I had any notifications from someone trying to follow me or liking one of my posts. However, I made changes and over the years since then I have made sure to take time away from social media by completely deleting my accounts and refocusing in on me when I started to feel the negative impact again. Social media ...

The Social Dilemma

Let me introduce to you The Social Dilemma , a documentary that goes into the depths of the problems the world is facing with technology and social media. A compelling insight on the risks of addiction, mental health disorders when using social media.      Throughout the documentary it explores and dives into explaining how social media companies use algorithms in order to track their user's behavior and increase engagement. Former Facebook engineer Justin Rosenstein goes into depth how users are being sold to advertisers, and in a way, users are selling their attention away to them. Then Tristan Harris a former Google design ethicist goes in to explaining the addiction to social media platforms and the similarity it has between Vegas slot machines which are primarily designed to keep and maintain one's attention.      Another main topic that is focused on throughout the documentary is how misinformation has spread globally through thes...
