This Week at Ohio Northern University

We are officially on week 12 and so the countdown to the end of the semester begins with just 4 weeks to go. Although we are all excited for the end of another semester, we must fight the urge to check out as end of semester projects are reaching their due date and finals week creeping in on us quickly. A time of both joy and stress as you can call it.

Speaking for myself I only have two final exams this semester, however, in the classes I do not have finals in I have projects due. For my GeoAnalytics course our Final Research Posters are due the end of next week. Along with that we present our posters the week of May 5th. Following that I have my social media simulation due the last week of April which I have luckily already completed so that I can focus on putting final touches and adjustments to my blogs for my Social Media course. Then I have my Marketing Plan Project which is due the week of finals which my professor in that class has given us the whole semester to work on our project, so it has saved a lot of stress from occurring. Then there's the classes which I do have a final exam in, Legal Environment and Principles of Management. In my Legal Environment class this week my group and I will be participating in the Pitch Competition. Our group is Team Eco, and we are pitching a portable water filter that screws on to any plastic water bottle and focuses on removing microplastics as you drink. It has been a huge project to work on and my group has done an amazing job working with each other and using our resources to put our presentation together and writing the papers that were needed as well. Lastly, with my Principles of Management class there truly is not a lot going on with this course. We have a quiz this week and then a speaker the following week and then just to prepare for the final exam.

Though it all looks easy going in words in actual time it tends to be a lot. Between all the deadlines creeping up all at once and trying to manage time for everything can be challenging especially between work schedules. Time flies by quickly and can be tedious at times but all I can say is I am working as hard as I can doing everything to the best of my ability and before we all know this semester will be behind us and hopefully this awful back and forth weather too.

Journey of Jaelynn

Today was the first day back at Ohio Northern University for spring semester. For me it will probably take me a few class days to get back in the swing of things as I took fall semester off and only had two online classes. However, I am very excited as I begin my time as a Marketing major. After I graduate from Ohio Northern I am hoping to put my Marketing degree in use in the Art field. Specifically in Art Galleries. Now personally I have no talent when it comes to drawing, painting, and generally all hands-on art that individuals can create. With that being said, even though I don't have that level of artistic ability I have always been drawn to it. To be able to look at certain pieces of art and try to find the true meaning behind each and every piece of artwork. When it comes to art, I love being able to hear how everyone's perspective on certain artworks. I find it beautiful how we all take in things differently and come up with differe...

Social Media's connection with Mental Health

Is there a connection between social media and mental health? The answer to that question is yes and as technology grows and social media platforms progress the more individuals are aware of the connection.      On a personal level I have first-hand come to realize how social media can affect one's mental health. I remember when I first got on social media, I was constantly comparing myself to other females on the platform and wished that I could look like how they did. Then I was fixated on how many likes I got on each of my posts. Social media was destroying my mental health and self-esteem day in and day out. I would constantly look at my phone to see if I had any notifications from someone trying to follow me or liking one of my posts. However, I made changes and over the years since then I have made sure to take time away from social media by completely deleting my accounts and refocusing in on me when I started to feel the negative impact again. Social media ...

The Social Dilemma

Let me introduce to you The Social Dilemma , a documentary that goes into the depths of the problems the world is facing with technology and social media. A compelling insight on the risks of addiction, mental health disorders when using social media.      Throughout the documentary it explores and dives into explaining how social media companies use algorithms in order to track their user's behavior and increase engagement. Former Facebook engineer Justin Rosenstein goes into depth how users are being sold to advertisers, and in a way, users are selling their attention away to them. Then Tristan Harris a former Google design ethicist goes in to explaining the addiction to social media platforms and the similarity it has between Vegas slot machines which are primarily designed to keep and maintain one's attention.      Another main topic that is focused on throughout the documentary is how misinformation has spread globally through thes...
